Colorado Springs Thunder owners Brian Yingling and CJ Yoder were talking shop and picked up on the Inline Hockey Central thread about a youth roller hockey player’s tough times and decided to do whatever the organization could to help. So after the dust settled, not easy for two hockey players to come up with some good ideas, the Thunder will be holding their first annual Gold/Gray Game. The event will be sponsored by Body and Fender and will give the Thunder faithful a glimpse at the 2009-2010 roster.
Casey Strale is a 12-year-old roller hockey player just like anyone of us and is penned up in a California hospital fighting a battle with cancer. He has just been through surgery to remove a tumor from his heart and is in recovery before starting chemotherapy for a tumor on his kidney. With Casey not being able to lace up the skates at this time the Thunder will do so on his behalf as they take the floor to beat up on each other and raise a little money for the Strale family. Thanks to the Tour Arena, Body and Fender, and some local referees, the expenses will be taken care of so that all money collected at the front gate will be sent to the Strale family.
If you’re in the Colorado Springs area and would like to watch some good hockey and support a great cause, head to the Tour Arena Thursday night, October 8th at 8pm. The Thunder organization is asking for a $5 donation to get into the nights event.
