Colorado Springs, CO - Thursday night the Colorado Springs Thunder showcased this season’s rosters with its first annual Gold/Gray Game. The night brought fans and players together for a great event and for a great cause. Casey Strale and his family has been a part of the roller hockey community for a long time and with Casey not being able to strap on his skates the Thunder decided they would do it for him.

The night’s events saw the Gray team come out on top in both games but they had to do it in late game come from behind fashion as the newly acquired Jami Yoder came through with only forty two tics to win game one and Jesse Tuttle scored at the buzzer to win game two. Tuttle’s goal wrapped up a 3-goal flurry at the end of game two to bring the Gray team back from a two goal deficit. Ryan Pedersen and rookie forward, Nick Gonnella both played well for the Gold squad while Dan Lamb played well in net for Gray. The fans were served a treat on the floor with two great games.

But the night was about a young hockey player and an organization taking the opportunity to help a family. Thanks to the Thunder faithful and a mascot who decided to make an appearance the night was a big success. Thor, the Thunder mascot, dawned the skates and flag and took the shirt off his back to send to Casey while Thunder fans came out to watch the games and with ticket sales and a Buffalo Wild Wings chuck-a-puck game the Thunder will be donating over $500 to the Strale family. “We all know this is minimal to what Casey needs at this point but we wanted to do something for a fellow roller hockey nut and it gave our guys some game action to prepare for our home opener next weekend,” said head coach, Dave Needham. “Our fans are the best and we are all looking forward to this season.”
