Thunder Split Weekend Series with the Ft. Collins Catz

Colorado Springs, Colo. -- The Thunder stayed atop the PIHA Rocky Mountain Division, but dropped only their second game of the season, blanking the Ft. Collins Catz, 3-0, and falling in the second game, 4-2.

The first game saw the Thunder take a 1-0 lead to halftime on a shorthanded goal from Ryan Pedersen. Eric Bogenrief assisted on the play. CJ Yoder and Jami Yoder lit the lamp twice in the second half to seal the 3-0 victory for the Thunder. Netminder Dan Lamb stopped all 10 shots he faced to record his first shutout of the season, while the Thunder peppered Catz goalie Tyler Mitchell with 22 shots.

The Catz turned the tables in the second game, defeating the Thunder, 4-2. Ft. Collins was up, 2-0, at halftime. Brian Yingling brought the Thunder to within a goal only :29 into the second half, but Ft. Collins tallied two more goals to put the game out of reach for Colorado Springs. Ryan Pedersen scored the Thunder's second goal. Dan Lamb suffered the loss between the pipes for the Thunder, while Tyler Mitchell earned the victory for the Catz.

In the two minor-league series played the same evening, the Front Range Thunder split their series with the Loveland Catz, falling 5-2 in the first game, and rebounding to earn a 3-2 triple overtime victory in the second game. The Black Forest Thunder then swept the Loveland Catz, 4-2 and 7-3.

Next up, the Colorado Springs Thunder will host the Parker Prowlers on Friday, December 18 at 8:15 and 9:15 p.m. at the Thunderdome, the Tour Arena in Colorado Springs.
